Participants engage in a variety of exercises across different time frames and fitness disciplines. The focus is on building strength, endurance, and overall fitness. Led by expert trainers, each session incorporates a variety of techniques and movement to provide a challenging yet rewarding workout experience for all fitness levels. Our purpose is to find out the potential of your mind and body in each session.

Habitat Mind Body offers Semi-Private Training (up to only 4 per session), a personalized strength and conditioning program. Participants work closely with expert trainers in small groups to achieve their fitness goals. The program combines tailored workouts, group support, and expert guidance to enhance strength, endurance, and overall physical fitness. This dynamic approach ensures individualized attention within a motivating group setting, driving progress and results.

What is functional fitness?

Functional fitness involves exercises that improve your body’s natural movement patterns to boost strength, balance, flexibility, and agility for everyday tasks. Examples include strength exercises like squats, deadlifts, and presses, as well as bodyweight movements like pull-ups, push-ups, and sit-ups. It also includes running, jumping, and throwing, along with cardiovascular exercises like running, rowing, and biking.

What if I am unfit and haven't trained for a long time?

Our workout programs are adjusted to your capabilities each time you come in. We make sure that you are able to perform the movements safely and you are able to achieve the intended purpose of each workout. You will be coached every step of the way!

What if I find it hard to not think about anything during meditation?

This is a misconception. The practice of mindfulness meditation is not to stop us from thinking. In fact some may say that it isn’t possible to completely stop the mind from thinking. What we practice is a gentle awareness of the thoughts and emotions that appear during our practice. We practice bringing our focus back to the present moment every time we notice that we have become distracted. The practice is to come back time and again in a gentle and mindful manner. It is not about stopping thought.

What if I find my thoughts and emotions too overwhelming during meditation sessions?

Everything we do in our meditation sessions is an invitation. You don’t have to force yourself to sit through anything if it is too much and too overwhelming. Although your meditation teacher may be guiding you through the session, you are in complete control of your experience. You may take a break any time you wish and you may stop the session if it feels right for you. We are here to lend any support you need.

What should I bring to the mindfulness meditation sessions?

Make sure you have changed your clothes from functional fitness session. Bring a yoga mat if you have one, a journal, drink bottle, and most of all an open mind ready to experience the present moment.

What can I expect from a typical Mindfulness Meditation Session?

Our mindfulness meditation sessions are designed to provide a safe and supportive space for inner peace, reflection, and calm. Here’s what you can expect during a session: 1. Full Control of Your Experience: While the meditation is guided, everything we do is an invitation. You are always in full control of your experience and can choose to pause or stop at any time if something feels overwhelming or uncomfortable. Your teacher is here to provide support and guidance after the session to help you process any challenging moments. 2. Freedom to Move: Staying still is not required. Various positions will be suggested, but you’re welcome to adjust or change your position as needed throughout the session to stay comfortable. 3. Open Sharing: Sessions typically begin with an open sharing circle, giving members an opportunity to express how they’re feeling or share anything they’d like to address before class begins. 4. Emotional Processing: We offer time for emotional processing through activities like "automatic” writing or drawing. These "brain dump" exercises encourage free-flowing thoughts and emotions to be expressed on the page without judgment. 5. Guided Meditation: The core of the session explores various meditation techniques, which may include breathwork, visualization, inquiry, or mantra / chanting. Each session introduces different approaches to help members discover what resonates with them. 6 Journaling: After meditation, there’s an opportunity to reflect and process thoughts using structured journaling techniques. 7. Closing Group Share: The session concludes with a closing group share, fostering connection and integration of the experience within the community. Our mindfulness meditation sessions are flexible and inclusive, allowing you to engage in a way that feels right for you while providing tools and practices to support your well-being.

What is mindfulness meditation?

Mindfulness meditation is a nonsecular practice that helps you become more aware of your thought and emotional patterns. We use techniques like visualisation, sound, breath, inquiry, and chanting to help you become aware of the present moment and develop a compassionate relationship with your thoughts and emotions. This practice fosters greater self-awareness and emotional clarity.

What if I am just starting and haven't trained before?

Our Starter Journey is designed for those that are beginning their training. This immersive 8 week experience includes taking your baseline measurements including a mobility screening, cardiovascular capacity screening, body composition, as well as your current lifestyle habits. From there we set your short, medium and long term goals together. You will be coached according to your capabilities every session you come in to train. You will be supported and held accountable to creating the habits and patterns that will bring you towards achieving your goals.

What if I find it difficult to sit still during meditation?

In our mindfulness meditation classes, everything is an invitation. You don’t have to stay completely still—your teacher will offer different positions to try, and you’re welcome to change positions or gently sway or rock if that feels comfortable.

What should I wear for the functional fitness sessions?

Come to the session dressed in your workout gear and sports shoes. Bring a sweat towel and a drink bottle. Please bring a change of clothes for after training as our functional fitness fitness class go back to back with our mindfulness meditation class.

What can I expect from a typical Functional Fitness training session?

At Habitat Mind Body, our functional fitness training sessions are designed to challenge and support you in achieving real, measurable fitness improvements. Here’s what you can expect from a typical session: 1. Program with Purpose: Every session is built around a specific focus and is part of a varied program designed to improve general physical preparedness. This means real, sustainable progress across all areas of fitness. 2. Coaching and Customization: Your coach will explain the intended stimulus of the day’s program and demonstrate the movements involved. They’ll also provide personalized adjustments to ensure every workout is both effective and safe for your individual needs. 3. Mindful Breathing: Each session begins with a mindful breathing exercise. This creates space for you to be present, grounded, and ready to engage fully in the training ahead. 4. Warm-Up Phases: General Warm-Up: A series of movements to increase your core body temperature and bring your body through its full range of motion. Specific Warm-Up: Focused exercises to gradually prepare your mind and body for the technical and physical demands of the day’s workout. 5. Main Workout: The core of the session includes a mix of strength training, gymnastics, athletics, powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, kettlebell work, and conditioning. You will train across various time domains, developing strength, endurance, and skill in a wide variety of fitness disciplines. 6. Recovery and Breathwork: Each session ends with mindful stretching and recovery-focused breathwork. This helps transition your central nervous system to a parasympathetic state ("rest and digest"), promoting recovery and preparing you to return to your daily activities or unwind at home. Our sessions are thoughtfully crafted to provide a balanced experience, combining physical challenge with mindful practices for optimal performance and recovery.
